1. Direct Scriptural Declaration

(Matthew 12:8), (Mark 2:28), (Luke 6:5): "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

Explanation: YESU explicitly declares His authority over the Sabbath. This statement highlights His divine identity and authority to define the true purpose and observance of the Sabbath.

Context: These verses come from instances where the Pharisees accused YESU and His disciples of breaking Sabbath laws. YESU corrected their misunderstanding, demonstrating that mercy and meeting human needs align with God's intent for the Sabbath.

2. YESU's Authority Over Creation

(John 1:3): "Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made."

(Colossians 1:16 - 17): "For in Him all things were created... all things have been created through Him and for Him."

Explanation: As the Creator, YESU instituted the Sabbath (Genesis 2:2 - 3). Since the Sabbath commemorates God's rest after creation, YESU, as Creator, has authority over it.

3. The Sabbath Points to YESU

(Matthew 11:28 - 30): "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Explanation: The Sabbath is a shadow of the rest and peace found in YESU (Hebrews 4:9 - 10). YESU fulfills the deeper spiritual meaning of the Sabbath by offering eternal rest for the soul, making Him the ultimate Lord of the Sabbath.

4. YESU's Teachings on the Sabbath

Healing on the Sabbath:

  • (Mark 3:1 - 6): Healing the man with a withered hand.
  • (Luke 13:10 - 17): Healing a woman crippled for 18 years.
  • (John 5:8 - 18): Healing the paralyzed man.

Explanation: YESU demonstrated that the Sabbath is meant for doing good and bringing life. He opposed legalistic restrictions that burdened people, revealing the Sabbath's true purpose of mercy, compassion, and worship of God.

5. YESU's Role in Redefining the Sabbath

(Matthew 12:6): "Something greater than the temple is here."

Explanation: YESU's authority surpasses the temple and its rituals. As Lord of the Sabbath, He redefines its observance to focus on love, mercy, and devotion to God.

(Hebrews 4:1 - 11): "There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God."

Explanation: The Sabbath rest points to salvation and eternal rest in YESU. Observing the Sabbath in light of YESU's lordship acknowledges His work of redemption.

6. YESU's Death and Resurrection Affirm His Authority

(Luke 23:56 - 24:1): The women rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment, then witnessed YESU's resurrection on the first day of the week.

Explanation: YESU honored the Sabbath even in death, showing its continued significance. His resurrection on the first day emphasizes the fulfilled purpose of the Sabbath - leading believers into new life and eternal rest in Him.

7. Implications of YESU as Lord of the Sabbath

1. Correcting Legalism: YESU challenges traditions that distort the Sabbath's meaning (Mark 7:8 - 13).

2. Fulfilling Prophecy: YESU embodies the promised rest and reconciliation between God and humanity (Isaiah 61:1 - 2).

3. Sabbath Observance in Him: Observing the Sabbath under YESU's lordship emphasizes worship, compassion, and spiritual rest, aligning with the true intent of the commandment.

8. Practical Application

1. Honoring the Sabbath: Recognize the Sabbath as holy by following YESU's example - prioritizing worship, acts of mercy, and rest.

2. Acknowledging His Name and Authority: Worship YESU as the Lord of the Sabbath, using His rightful name, IESU (YESU), and avoiding mispronunciations that may misrepresent His identity (Zephaniah 3:9).

"For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." (Matthew 12:8)

"He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read." (Luke 4:16)

"How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." (Matthew 12:12)

The LORD IESU did not say "Don't keep the Sabbath", rather what He meant is to keep the commandment, to keep the Sabbath holy, but do not follow the teachings of the Pharisees.

"This is what the LORD says: 'If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed laws of heaven and earth," (Jeremiah 33:25)
